Blog #11 (part 2 class reflection)

Good Afternoon and welcome back to my blog!

This blog is bittersweet as we are recapping 3 impactful activities/readings/videos we did throughout the semester.

Precious Knowledge documentary: This documentary really stood out to me. Hearing different students perspectives on how the school system has failed so many students. Having a class such as "ethnic studies" really brought so many students together in one safe space. In a community where students are struggling it was really special to me that school can be a safe space which is what I want my classroom to be for many students.

Kohn Classroom chart- This highlights how certain dynamics and ways can help you connect to your students. I like the way it showed different ways to set up a classroom because it inspired me to come up with useful ways to set up a successful classroom.

Shalabys Troublemakers- I enjoyed reading this article because it showed a different perspective on kids. It showed that no kid is truly a "troublemaker" but a student going through much more, either at home or in school. A part that really stood out to me is when a child might not understand a concept you are teaching, that might cause them to act out because they cannot understand the assignment. This opened my eyes to a new way of teaching and approaching bad behavior.

Hi Emily! I agree with you, and I also said the Kohn chart and the troublemakers article were meaningful and will stand out to me! I think both of those things are really important to keep in mind as we become future teachers.
